It might seem crazy what we’re about to say. The lines between music celebrities and Hollywood have been blurring more and more as time goes on for better and worse. As such, people like Pharrel Williams have become known for both. You may best know him from his work with Universal Studios in creating several of the songs used in Illumination’s Despicable Me franchise including Happy and Double Life. That said, we also see he has a massive repertoire of skills including his shelf full of Grammy’s and being a well respected fashion designer. What kind of self respecting fashion designer would go out of their way to let their own wardrobe enter a realm of blandness?
Not Pharell Williams.
So Political Fashionistas, for today’s celebrity wardrobe deep dive we will be looking at the one and only Pharrel Williams!
The Closet of Pharrel Williams
As we venture into the wonderful wardrobe of Pharrel Williams, you may notice a few icons in his style ranging from his suits to his fedoras. We will be exploring these outfits piece by piece and seeing just how each accessory comes together into one cohesive unit.
- Going Green

For our first stop, let’s take a look at this ensemble on the Grammys’ page about our rap star friend. That is, take a look if you can because he’s wearing camouflage. Where did he go? The green camo jacket is accompanied by a tasteful teal v-neck shirt to give the ensemble a casual appearance while touting several necklaces that incorporate pearls, turquoise, and gold for extravagance. The fine garnish of this plate is a dark gray fedora with a black ribbon to add more class to it all. This ensemble has the flash factor brought in by the necklaces, but for the most part is a rather casual attire.

Here we see Pharrell wearing a much flashier ensemble. Perfect for displaying his double life. This jacket’s design is another camo jacket, but has some key differences including a fur lining, a prominent yellow instead of green, and a zipper in the place of button fastenings. With this jacket, he wears a Chanel coin purse alongside a casual pair of jeans and a navy blue t-shirt. The look is all brought together by a bright yellow baseball cap and a pair of gold bedazzled sunglasses with teardrop shaped lenses.
This outfit is more or less what you would expect to see from a big bombastic celebrity. There are so many outfits in the world of fashion that “stand out,” but this one stands out among standing out.
- Louis Vuitton Jacket

When Louis Vuitton held an event in Paris that Vogue reported on, Pharrell Williams went on a little trip. As such, we see him here with a Louis Vuitton bag in hand alongside a matching jacket with colorful stripes as the primary entré. As such, the additional garnishes for this ensemble would be the black leather pants, beige boots, gold chains, navy blue cap, and white t-shirt.
Here we see Pharrell Williams’ showy side for this big event. The fashion (pun very intended) in which he went out of his way to honor the Louis Vuitton brand is worthy of admiration. The fact that this jacket matches the bag while bolstering a nice colorful striped lining differentiates it from the crowd.
- The Bicycle Ensemble

If you want to see Pharrell Williams’ most 80’s look to ever 80’s, here you go. From a pair of red sneakers to a pair of faded denim jeans, then there's also that gigantic puffy red jacket with the fur around the hood, and a final accent is a pair of diamond earrings and a stylish baseball cap. We also see a white stripe across the red jacket and see how it adds a brighter flourish to the whole thing.
Everyone loves a good throwback, revivals in TV and adaptations in film, and this outfit is a perfect example. If the 80’s and 90’s were anything, they were the decades of being big, loud, flashy, and radical. We would also go into the bike but sadly, it counts more as transportation instead of a fashion accessory. As amazing as the low pedals and the high handlebars are, we will unfortunately have to move on.
- Form in Denim

This next entry is a unique one. We have a pair of purple sneakers complimenting a nice pair of denim jeans and a six button denim jacket atop a white shirt with a gold chain. Of course, what would a Pharrell Williams ensemble be without a pair of tinted shades and a hat? Okay, it would probably just be an outfit without sunglasses and a hat, but just admit it, it just would not feel the same. In this ensemble, Mr. Williams is wearing a green cap with a pair of sunglasses that pop out with a shade of orange lenses.
This ensemble has a nice color scheme of cool colors with mostly blue with purple, green, and a tiny hint of orange. This ensemble of hues gives us as the audience a good look into the more casual side of Williams. This outfit is not nearly as loud and bombastic as the other outfits we have been looking at today. That said, do not confuse casual with careless. We do not need to talk to you and convince you that this ensemble was not in fact carelessly thrown together. This outfit was carefully planned out and it really shows.
- A Big Fur Coat

In this entry, we see the common domestic fur coat, Furrure Tunicam. The brown fur coat spends its time hanging in many closets yet to see the light of day. That is, until Pharrell Williams puts it on. The rapper is seen wearing a big brown fur coat along with a brown and teal button-down on top of what appears to be a teal undershirt. While his seemingly ever present hat appears to have fled elsewhere, he still wears his ever iconic sunglasses. However, that’s not all! We also see him holding a very stylish leather handbag that appears to be adorned with a chain and a small heart shaped charm. Pharrell Williams sure loves his handbags, doesn’t he?
This big fuzzy ensemble is overall a very appealing look, especially for colder weather whenever the winter season approaches. Can you imagine just sitting at home while it’s cold and rainy inside, bundling yourself up in this big coat with a mug of hot coco with plenty of marshmallows? Yes you can. You just did.
- Go West, Young Williams

Go west all the way around into Paris. For another trip to Paris, Pharrell Williams was seen wearing what appears to be a pair of black boots along with a pair of what look like denim bellbottoms with a white drawstring. We also see him with a big colorful hoodie with faded but bombastically cartoonish designs, enough to silence the black shirt underneath. Of course, you can not ignore the gigantic white cowboy hat and orange tinted sunglasses combo.
This colorful cowboy attire harkens back to the prominence of cartoons and the westerns of the past. We get a throwback that does not simply copy the styles of the past but puts an entirely new spin on it. Sometimes to move forward, we need to rewind the clock and make something new out of something more vintage.
- The Camo Squares

This is a very unique ensemble that brings us full circle on our tour. Here we see Pharrel Williams wearing a green, tan, black and brown jacket with a camo patterned suit jacket, but this time the pattern is all squares. Beneath this jacket is a white collared shirt with a gold and black bolo tie, matching some of the multiple bracelets on his left hand. His gold studded sunglasses have very small frames while his cap matches this jacket, tying everything together.
Like A Room Without A Roof
That concludes our tour of Pharrell Williams’ Wardrobe. We hope you had fun looking at our numerous displays today. We can learn all kinds of neat things by looking at these celebrities. By turning to celebrities for inspiration, we can start building our wardrobes piece by piece. Our main big takeaway is the fact that balance is a key aspect of any good wardrobe with outfits that can range from big and flashy to low key and casual.
